The Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress has got a very good response in the states of South India. Two months have been completed of this yatra being led by Rahul Gandhi. The day before the completion of two months of the Yatra, the results of the by-elections held in seven assembly seats in six states came out and if we look at the electoral benefits of the Yatra, the profit was zero. The Congress could not repeat its previous performance even in the state where Rahul was traveling. The allies of the Congress certainly performed well, but wherever the Congress itself fought, its performance was very poor.

At the time when Bharat Jodo Yatra was going on in Telangana, voting was held for the by-election to the Munugode assembly seat. Rajagopal Reddy of the Congress party won this seat in the 2018 assembly elections by more than 37 thousand votes. He later resigned from Congress and joined BJP. The BJP had given him a ticket in the by-election. In the by-polls, Prabhakar Reddy of the ruling TRS got 97 thousand votes and Rajagopal Reddy got 89 thousand votes, while Congress’s P Sarwanthi Reddy got only 23 thousand votes. That is, Congress got fewer votes in the by-election than it had won last time.

Similarly, in the Dhamnagar seat of Odisha, Congress had a very bad situation. Congress candidate forfeited his deposit. BJP’s Suryabanshi Suraj got 80 thousand, BJD’s Abanti Das got 70 thousand and Congress’s Baba Harekrishna Sethi got three and a half thousand votes. Congress got only two percent of the total voter turnout. An independent candidate contesting from this seat also got five percent votes. The Congress candidate was even below that i.e. fourth. This is a sign of complete destruction of Congress in Odisha.

The Congress did not contest from Mokama and Gopalganj in Bihar, Gola Gokarnath in Uttar Pradesh, and Andheri East in Maharashtra. The party was not expecting to be in a fight on the seat of Telangana and Odisha. But in the Adampur seat of Haryana, the Congress had put in full force and it seemed that the Congress candidate would perform well there. But in Adampur’s seat too, Congress lost by a considerable margin. The Congress hoped it would get a one-time vote of Jat because of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, but this hope was not fulfilled. INLD and Aam Aadmi Party made a dent in the Jat vote. Jaiprakash of Congress lost by about 16,000 votes. With this Hisar Lok Sabha constituency became Congress-free. Of the nine assembly seats in the region, five are with the BJP and four with its ally JJP. The Adampur seat was earlier with the Congress, but with Kuldeep Bishnoi switching sides to the BJP, this seat was lost from its hands.
