The Supreme Court expressed serious concern over fake news circulating on web portals and YouTube channels in the absence of a regulatory mechanism. The apex court said that the content is being served on the web portal without any accountability. They are broadcasting anything. The Chief Justice said that everything in this country is shown from a communal angle.

A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramanna was hearing a batch of petitions filed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, asking the Center to take strict steps to prevent the spread of fake news related to a religious gathering at Markaz Nizamuddin. The direction was sought. The action was demanded against those responsible for this.

The bench questioned that almost the news shown in a section of private news channels has a communal tinge. Ultimately this country is going to be in disrepute. Have you ever tried to regulate these private channels? Social media only listens to powerful voices and without any accountability, many things are written against judges, institutions.

The bench said there is no control over fake news in web portals and YouTube channels. If you go to YouTube, you will find that how fake news is easily spread and anyone can start a channel on YouTube.
