Delhi. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav has been launched to bring the tricolor home to the people and celebrate the 75th year of India’s independence. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has started across the country today. This campaign, started under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, will continue till August 15.

The central government has urged people to hoist or display the tricolor in their homes from August 13 to 15 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and his wife Sonal Shah unfurled the tricolor at their residence to mark the launch of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign today.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath flagged off the campaign along with school children at the CM’s residence in Lucknow.

As part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, waving the National Flag, marched to the Mayawati Ashram premises in Champawat.

A citizen, a private organization, or an educational institution can fly or display the national flag on all days and occasions. There is no restriction on the timing of flag display.

The government has amended the Flag Code of India to allow the tricolor to be displayed day and night in the open and in individual houses or buildings.

The Flag Code of India was first amended in December last year to allow the use of polyester for making hand-woven and machine-made flags, apart from cotton, wool, silk, and khadi.

The program envisages inspiring Indians everywhere to hoist the national flag in their homes. The aim of the program is to make the association with the national flag more personal, rather than keeping it formal or institutional. The idea behind the initiative is to inculcate the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and promote awareness about National Flag.

Earlier, Indian citizens were not allowed to hoist the national flag except on select occasions.
