Kotdwar – A disagreement ignited by a social‑media post quickly escalated into a physical altercation between Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local businessman Sanjeev Tank. CCTV footage from the vicinity shows the dispute spiralling from heated words to shoving and pushing.
Traders Converge on Kotwali
When the video went viral, a group of traders and laborers aligned with the BJP gathered at the Kotdwar Kotwali. The crowd raised slogans and demanded immediate action against the alleged perpetrator.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To prevent further unrest, police officials placed Deepak Kumar in preventive custody. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur said the detention follows a formal complaint filed by Sanjeev Tank.
The ASP added that Kumar will be produced before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court as per due process, and no individual will be permitted to take the law into their own hands.
Legal Warning Issued
Authorities emphasized that anyone attempting to disturb public order or engage in illegal activity will face strict action under the law.
