Dehradun. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked the International Day of Older Persons with a ceremony at the Himalayan Cultural Centre in Neembuwala, Dehradun, on Thursday. The event featured the launch of a civil‑services coaching programme specially designed for persons with disabilities and a tribute to 23 senior citizens for their distinguished contributions across diverse fields.

In addition, five students who excelled in essay and painting competitions received certificates and prizes, highlighting the government's commitment to nurturing young talent.

₹147.34 Crore Pension Disbursed in a Single Click

Through a streamlined one‑click payment portal, the chief minister released the September pension allotment. A total of 993,886 pensioners benefited from the scheme, receiving a collective sum of ₹147 crore 34 lakh 53 thousand.

During the ceremony, Dhami also took a pledge to safeguard senior citizens’ welfare and planted a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative on the centre’s grounds.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami extended heartfelt wishes to the elderly on this special day and prayed for their continued health and longevity. He emphasized that senior citizens act as a “protective shield” for families, offering emotional stability, discipline, and the transmission of values to younger generations.

He added that their presence enriches households with affection, guidance, and a sense of security that strengthens family bonds.
