Dhanapur, Chandauli. In the early hours of Wednesday, a seemingly secure, newly‑constructed dwelling in Birna village was violently entered. A group of thieves slipped past the locked doors, absconding with approximately ₹1.60 lakh in cash and a handful of gold ornaments.

The property belongs to Bhanu Maurya. Since the second floor is still under construction, the family continues to reside in their older home, keeping the new structure locked each night.

Following their usual routine, the Mauryas secured the new house before retiring to the old one. Somewhere during the night, unidentified intruders forced their way inside, ransacking rooms and overturning furniture.

Cash and Gold Jewellery Stolen

When the family returned on Thursday morning, they discovered displaced furniture and belongings scattered across the floor. An immediate inventory showed that ₹1.60 lakh in cash had vanished, along with a gold chain, a ring and several other pieces of jewellery.

The victims promptly lodged a complaint at the local police station (PRV). Officers arrived swiftly, cordoned off the scene and began collecting forensic evidence.

Police Review CCTV Footage

Investigators inspected the surveillance cameras installed around the property. Preliminary checks indicate the break‑in was captured on video, and the footage is now being examined to identify the perpetrators.

Authorities are also probing how the burglars managed to bypass the locked doors and whether they possessed prior knowledge of the house’s temporary vacancy.

Community Calls for Greater Security

The incident has heightened anxiety among nearby residents, who report a spate of similar thefts in recent weeks. Villagers are urging the police to increase night patrols and bolster overall security in the area.

"We feel unsafe when our homes are empty at night; stronger preventive measures are essential," said a local elder.

Local leaders have appealed for enhanced safety protocols, especially during periods when homes are unoccupied, to deter future break‑ins.

Police continue their investigation, striving to trace the suspects and recover the stolen cash and jewellery.
