Dehradun. Minister of Tourism and Culture Satpal Maharaj today has requested the people of the state to follow the rules of Covid while wishing Igas (Bagwal) Garhwali Deepawali.

Satpal Maharaj said that Igas, Garhwali Deepawali is celebrated 11 days after Deepawali in Garhwal region. Shri Maharaj said that information arrived in Uttarakhand 11 days after Lord Rama returned from exile to Ayodhya. Hence, it is a tradition to celebrate Diwali after 11 days here. It is also mentioned that the war of Dapaghat was won by the Garhwal army under the leadership of Veer Madhav Singh Bhandari about 400 years ago. There is a tradition of celebrating Igas as a victory festival in the joy of winning in battle. Satpal Maharaj while wishing all the people of Igas (Bagwal) Garhwali Deepawali, has requested that keeping in mind all social distancing, follow the rules of Kovid and celebrate this festival in a cordial atmosphere.
