In March last year, the movement between the two countries came to a complete halt after the lockdown was imposed. After the initiative of the Nepal Government to open the border, there is hope that soon India will also take a decision in this regard. There are 8 routes of movement between India and Nepal in Uttarakhand, of which 6 are in Pithoragarh while 2 are in Champawat. This border also has several trade circles of both countries, which are completely closed after the lockdown.

Being seen as a beginner
DM Pithoragarh Vijay Jogande informed that they have been informed about the opening of the International Border by Nepal. But bridges will be opened by India only when there is a decision from the governance level. Nepal’s move is also seen as a better beginning of relations between the two countries.

Old relations between India and Nepal may be restored.
After the inauguration of the Lipulekh Road connecting the China border last year, Nepal took a completely anti-India stance. The situation even went so far that the Oli government of Nepal had changed its political map to 3 villages in India. After the changed political equations, Nepali PM KP Oli’s attitude also seems to have changed towards India, which also raised hopes that the old relations between India and Nepal can be restored.
