Dehradun: In a bid to render the city cleaner and free from disposable plastic, the district administration has stepped up its enforcement drive across all 100 wards of the municipal area. Directed by District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, officials are targeting anyone who uses, stores or sells plastic that is banned under the state’s regulations.

The task force comprises 50 sector officers who are monitoring activities and ensuring swift action. To date, surprise inspections have been carried out at 1,776 commercial establishments throughout the city, resulting in regulatory action against 762 outlets found guilty of handling single‑use plastic.

During the operation, 550 establishments received challans, and a total fine of ₹1.96 lakh was collected. Moreover, the teams have confiscated and destroyed 532 kg of prohibited plastic items.

Raising Awareness Alongside Enforcement

The administration stresses that the campaign’s goal extends beyond monetary penalties; it aims to curb plastic consumption and educate the public on environmental stewardship. Traders and citizens are being briefed on the detrimental impacts of plastic waste and encouraged to adopt sustainable alternatives.

Officials appeal to both the public and business community to stop using, storing, or vending banned plastic products. They underline that achieving a clean, plastic‑free Dehradun requires collective responsibility—government action alone cannot accomplish the objective.
