Rujira Banerjee, the wife of Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was asked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to join the investigation on Sunday in a case involving coal smuggling charges. Sources said that a three-member team of CBI reached Banerjee’s house in Kolkata and summoned him today. It is written in the summon that he will have to come to the CBI office within 24 hours.

Sources in the investigating agency said that CBI officials have reached the TMC MP’s residence in Kolkata to give notice to his wife in the coal smuggling case. It is being told that the team will also interrogate the wife of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP from Diamond Harbor constituency in South 24 Parganas. Sources said Rujira has been asked to join the ongoing investigation into the coal smuggling case. The CBI has reached Banerjee’s house at a time when elections are due in the state after a few months.

There are allegations that the coal mafia has regularly bribed the leaders of the ruling TMC of Bengal. The bribe money was circulated through the party’s youth leader Vinay Mishra, who is under investigation and is absconding in the case. The agency has issued a non-bailable warrant against him. The agency filed a case in November last year for investigating illegal mining and coal theft from the Eastern Coalfield Limited’s Kunustoria and Kajoria coalfields.

In the case of coal smuggling, the CBI raided the residences of TMC leader Vinay Mishra, businessman Amit Singh, and Neeraj Singh in December. It has been alleged that illegally mined coal, which has a market value of several thousand crore rupees, has been sold over the years by a racket operating in the western parts of West Bengal, where Eastern Coalfields Limited is part of several mines. Operates.
