Tensions between Russia and Ukraine are increasing continuously. Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky has added to the stir by announcing an attack on Russia on 16 February. Apart from America, Ukraine is also getting support from some other countries. Meanwhile, Canada has also decided to help Ukraine.

Canada will send lethal weapons to Ukraine worth more than 7 million dollars. The Canadian government said in a statement on Monday that Canada would donate more than $7 million worth of lethal weapons and aid materials to Ukraine’s armed forces. Weapons include machine guns, pistols, carbines, 1.5 million rounds of ammunition, sniper rifles, and various related equipment. Canada has authorized the Ukrainian government to provide additional military aid to help Ukrainian security forces.

Canada stands firm in its support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, a press release said. Canada condemns the Russian aggression as it builds its forces around Ukraine. “Canada remains committed to a diplomatic solution and calls on Russia to engage in meaningful dialogue,” the release added. As stated earlier, any aggression on the part of Russia will be met with dire consequences, including coordinated sanctions.

Canada, along with its allies and partners, remains committed to supporting Ukraine and its people as they defend themselves against destabilizing actions by Russia. Canada’s defense minister said: “Canada is deeply concerned by Russia’s military build-up in and around Ukraine, which is also a major threat to international borders.” Following talks with our Ukrainian partners and during my recent visit to Ukraine, Canada has authorized the provision of defensive weapons to help Ukraine defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. I am in touch with my Ukrainian counterpart, Minister Reznikov. Together with our allies, we will continue to support Ukraine as it is defending itself.
