Lucknow – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today commissioned a fleet of 87 interceptor vehicles at Lok Bhavan, signalling a decisive leap toward high‑tech policing in Uttar Pradesh. The blend of four‑wheel and two‑wheel units is designed to tighten traffic surveillance, improve road‑safety outcomes and reinforce law‑enforcement capabilities across the state.
Modern Policing at the Core
Addressing a gathering of officials, police officers and media representatives, the CM traced the evolution of law‑and‑order measures since 2017. He reiterated the government's resolve to overhaul police functioning through cutting‑edge technology, citing the police commissionerate framework as a model that demands meticulous planning, bold leadership and state‑of‑the‑art tools to foster a safe environment for development and civic life.
Tech‑Savvy Interceptor Fleet
The newly unveiled interceptors are fitted with sophisticated monitoring kits, GPS‑based tracking and real‑time communication systems. Deployed on busy arterial roads, congested junctions and other high‑risk zones, they will stream live data to Integrated Command and Control Centres, enabling swift tactical responses.
Adityanath also highlighted the broader Safe City initiative, noting that several districts already operate Integrated Command and Control Centres that bolster both preventive patrolling and investigative operations.
Honouring Courage and Service
The ceremony featured a medal presentation to police personnel who have distinguished themselves in the line of duty. Among the awardees was the late STF Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh, posthumously conferred the Kirti Chakra for his gallantry, with his family receiving the tribute on his behalf.
In addition, the event marked the launch of former DGP Prakash Singh’s memoir Sangharsh, a candid chronicle of police reforms and his decades‑long career on the force.
Road Safety Remains a Top Priority
Confronting the ongoing challenge of road fatalities, the chief minister emphasized that technology‑enabled enforcement, coupled with vigilant monitoring, is essential to curb deaths on highways. The deployment of the 87 interceptors forms a cornerstone of the state's broader strategy to modernise traffic management and safeguard commuters.
Through these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh aspires to set a benchmark for contemporary policing, marrying traditional bravery with digital precision.
