Uttarakhand can get a gift just before the elections, 1000 km of rural roads will be repaired

Dehradun. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) before the announcement of Uttarakhand assembly elections, Uttarakhand can get the gift of strengthening and widening 1000 km of roads in rural areas. In this regard, preparations are being made at the government level to send a proposal to the central government by the end of the month. Soon after this, proposals for 1300 km of roads will also be sent.

In the third phase under PMGSY, proposals are to be sent to the central government for the strengthening and widening of the roads built in the rural areas of the state. The Center has set a quota of 2300 km of road for Uttarakhand in this sequence. In this regard, a survey of the roads constructed earlier under PMGSY was conducted across the state by the state government. In this, those roads were taken, whose condition is worse. Presently the work of preparing their Detailed Project Report (DPR) is going on after the survey.

According to Udayraj Singh, Additional Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of PMGSY in the state, about 40 percent DPRs of roads have been prepared. The effort is that by the end of this month, the DPR of 1000 km of roads along with the proposal should be sent to the Central Government so that these can be approved immediately and work can start on the respective roads in rural areas. He said that the proposals for the remaining 1300 km of roads would also be sent to the Center at the earliest.

Funds released for construction of women’s hostel in Barkot
The government has released an amount of 1.63 crores for the construction of a hostel in Government College, Barkot in Uttarkashi district. Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat had approved funds for 13 women’s hostels in the past. In this episode, the government Tuesday released the first installment for the construction of a hostel in Barkot. The total cost of hostel construction is about 4.08 crores.
