New Delhi – Police have disclosed that a 17‑year‑old girl was allegedly gang‑raped in the Astha Kunj vicinity close to Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple. Three men have been taken into custody, and one of them, 34‑year‑old Asif from Tughlakabad, was shot during a police confrontation and is now receiving treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre.

The victim had visited Kalkaji Temple accompanied by a younger male friend. After completing their prayers, the pair entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate No 7. According to investigators, three individuals approached them, claiming to be police officers, and threatened them.

The alleged perpetrators allegedly separated the girl from her friend, escorted her to a secluded spot, and assaulted her. Witnesses say Asif brandished a weapon and forced the sexual act, while the other two men assisted. After the assault, the trio reportedly fled the scene.

Following a tip‑off, officers from Amar Colony Police Station rushed to Astha Kunj, escorted the girl to AIIMS for a medical check‑up, and secured the area. Crime‑scene and forensic teams collected evidence from the location.

During the chase, police located Asif near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. A police unit surrounded him, but he allegedly attempted to escape, opening fire and discharging three rounds. One bullet struck the bullet‑proof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh. In response, the constable returned fire in self‑defence, wounding Asif in the leg. He was subsequently shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. The remaining two suspects have also been apprehended.

An FIR has been lodged and a comprehensive investigation is underway. Authorities estimate the victim’s age to be between 16 and 17 years and have completed her medical examination. Further interrogations of the accused are in progress to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
