New Delhi – Authorities have taken a 56‑year‑old suspect, identified as Maqsood, into custody following allegations that he sexually assaulted a girl studying in Class 6 inside a shop in the bustling Sadar Bazar market.

According to the police report, the child stepped out of her home to buy school‑supplies. Once inside the shop, the accused allegedly bound her hands and feet, confined her, and proceeded to commit sexual abuse.

Legal action taken

Prompted by the victim’s statement, investigators lodged a formal complaint at the women’s police station. The case has been registered under multiple provisions, including sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to rape, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and unlawful confinement.

Arrest and ongoing investigation

Maqsood was apprehended on Friday. Police continue to gather forensic evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the chronology of events to build a robust prosecution case.
