Telecom regulator TRAI on Tuesday changed the rules related to mobile number portability (MNP). TRAI has now fixed a time limit of three days for the process of porting the mobile number of the same service area to another company.
Similarly, companies will get only 5 days to clear the request made for porting numbers from one circle to another. According to TRAI officials, the new rules will come into effect from December 16.

Fines of Rs 10,000 can be levied for rejecting a porting application: According to the new rules, TRAI may impose a fine of up to Rs 10,000 on a mobile operator if the porting application is rejected for the wrong reasons. Under the new rules, TRAI has also made corporate porting easier than before. Now 100 mobile numbers can be ported simultaneously using a single authorization letter. Earlier this limit was 50 mobile numbers.
