Man Detained in Himachal Over Alleged Rape Linked to Broken Marriage Promise
Police from Mandi district have taken into custody a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, accused of raping a woman after promising to marry her.
How the complaint arose
The victim states that Sameer, son of Dilshad, assured her of marriage, escorted her to Mandi, and then allegedly assaulted her. After the incident he reportedly fled on her motorcycle, taking her mobile phone, roughly ₹70,000 in cash and a set of jewellery, and left her stranded in Chandigarh.
Chronology of the investigation
The grievance was first lodged on 29 August as a Zero FIR at the Civil Lines Police Station in Muzaffarnagar and later transferred to the Sadar Police Station in Mandi for a detailed probe.
Following the filing, the complainant posted a video from Mandi questioning why authorities had not yet located the accused, noting that his phone remained active. Investigators examined mobile‑tower logs, pinpointed the signal to Thural in Kangra district, and moved in to apprehend him just before he could cross the state border.
Official comments
Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar confirmed that the case remains under active investigation and that Sameer will be presented before a court in accordance with legal procedures.
Authorities are also scrutinising the theft allegations—cash, jewellery and the motorcycle—to determine additional charges based on the evidence gathered.
