The dream of the Indian women’s hockey team to reach the finals of the Tokyo Olympics remained unfulfilled. They had to face defeat at the hands of world number two Argentina in the second semi-final. The Indian team suffered a 1-2 defeat in a thrilling match. Although the Indian team gave a tough fight to the stronger team and kept fighting till the last second, in the end, Argentina won.

The Indian team took the lead in the match by scoring a goal in the second minute of the first quarter, but after that Argentina came back in the second quarter to level the score. Argentina captain Maria scored both goals for the team. On the other hand, Gurjit Kaur scored the only goal for India.

Despite losing in the semi-finals, the Indian team still has a chance to win a medal. Now she has to face Great Britain in the playoff (bronze medal match) on 6 August, where she can win the bronze medal.
