Metro stations locked down
In a pre‑emptive move, officials have prohibited passenger ingress and egress at eleven Delhi Metro stations ahead of a scheduled rally at Jantar Mantar. The stations affected are Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and New Delhi. While platform doors stay shut, interchange passages at several of these hubs remain accessible for passengers transferring between lines.
Police reinforce the area
Additional police units have been dispatched to the vicinity of Jantar Mantar, with barricades erected at vulnerable points and intensified surveillance and security checks in place. The administration has also imposed restrictive directives for the New Delhi district.
Traffic cautions
The Delhi Traffic Police have warned of severe congestion on routes leading to Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Patel Chowk and Sansad Marg. Motorists are advised to consider alternative pathways before entering the impacted zones.
What lies ahead?
The closure of these metro stations is part of a wider security strategy. Authorities will keep a close watch on developments and may modify station access if circumstances require.
