Roorkee. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee have come up with an action plan and give some suggestions for rehabilitating the disaster-affected Joshimath city. Under this, earthquake-resistant and better pucca buildings can be constructed at a low cost. At the same time, it has also been proposed to adopt the model of the urban development plan for the new Joshimath.

About 40 percent area of Joshimath has been declared a disaster due to landslides. There are cracks on the land, roads, and buildings here. In view of this, different teams of scientists from CBRI Roorkee are continuously conducting inspections and surveys in the disaster-affected areas of Joshimath. At the same time, the team of scientists at the institute has also suggested a permanent solution to the Joshimath disaster to the government.

Scientists say that the city can be settled by selecting a new safe place. Urban planning will be needed for this. CBRI can help the government in carrying out building construction work using safe and cost-effective technology based on the geographical and environmental aspects of the region.

At the same time, CBRI will construct weather-friendly buildings. Local construction materials and skills will be used in this. The team of CBRI scientists is also assessing the damages in 4,000 buildings in Joshimath. Institute’s scientist Dr. Ajay Chaurasia, who was part of the team that went for an inspection in Joshimath, told that CBRI Roorkee has prepared an action plan and given some suggestions to the government for the rehabilitation of the disaster-hit Joshimath city.
