Sharp Rise in Commercial LPG Costs Across Delhi
Major oil marketing companies have announced a hike of over ₹60 on the 19‑kg commercial LPG cylinder in several Indian cities. Although the exact increment differs by locality due to varied tax regimes, the overall pattern is clear: businesses will face higher fuel bills just as the festive period kicks in.
In contrast, domestic LPG cylinders for household use remain unchanged, providing a modest respite for home cooks.
New Pricing Structure in the Capital
In Delhi, the latest adjustment adds ₹62.50 to the commercial cylinder, pushing the selling price to ₹2,810 per unit. This follows a smaller ₹9.50 increase that was implemented back in September.
The timing is pivotal. Festive celebrations traditionally drive a surge in gas consumption among hotels, restaurants, banquet services and roadside food stalls. Consequently, the higher cylinder price is set to lift operating expenditures for these enterprises.
Implications for Food‑Service Operators
Commercial LPG is the lifeblood of kitchens in hotels, restaurants and small food outlets. Even a seemingly modest rise can generate noticeable pressure on profit margins:
- Large hotels may see a tangible jump in utility expenses.
- Mid‑size restaurants could confront tighter margins, prompting potential menu‑price revisions.
- Small roadside vendors and catering units might find it difficult to absorb the added cost without passing a portion onto customers.
Business owners will need to decide whether to absorb the extra expense or reflect it in the price of dishes and services. As the festive season approaches, these choices could subtly shape the price tags diners encounter.
While residential consumers are insulated from a price jump on their home LPG connections, the commercial segment must brace for higher fuel outlays during one of the year’s busiest periods.
