In Uttarakhand, a five-member Indian team led by mountaineer Sheetal (25), a resident of Salmora, Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), working in the Adventure Sports Department of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) Headquarters, climbed Europe’s highest peak Mount Elbrus (5642 meters) on the 75th Independence Day. But have made the country proud by hoisting the tricolor. The expedition team also included four more members of Climbing Beyond the Summits (CBTS).

Everest conqueror and CBTS founder Yogesh Garbyal said Sheetal wanted Mount Elbrus to be scaled on Independence Day. At the same time, Sheetal told that the team had planned for the purpose of climbing on 15th August. The team reached Moscow three days late due to flight cancellations due to the Kovid epidemic. On August 13, he made his base camp at 3600 meters. On the night of 14 August, he set out for ascension.

Celebrated independence by hoisting the tricolor on the Elbrus peak at around one o’clock on 15 August. It was difficult to climb from the base camp in 48 hours, very few climbers are able to do so. The team had undergone substantial training in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand before moving to Elbrus. And the result of this was that the team was able to mount on record time. Sheetal also holds the record for being the youngest female mountaineer in the world to scale the Kanchenjunga and Annapurna peaks.

CBTS founder Yogesh Garbyal said that SDRF (Uttarakhand Police) constable Rajendra Nath, who was in the team, also created history by hoisting the tricolor on the highest peak of the continent of Europe. Rajendra Nath is the first Uttarakhand Police jawan to do so.

Rajasthan’s twin brothers Tapan Dev Singh and Tarun Dev Singh were also in the team that conquered Mount Elbrus, located on the Russia-Georgia border. He has become the first twin brother of India to conquer this peak of Europe. The fourth member of the team is Jigmit Thurchin from Ladakh, who scaled Mount Everest this year. He has become the first youth from the Union Territory of Ladakh to have scaled the highest peak in Europe.

Rajasthan’s twin brothers Tapan and Tarun were associated with CBTS since last year. Everest winner Sheetal was teaching him the tricks of mountaineering. It is the dream of both the brothers to one day hoist the tricolor on Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. Both will continue their training in the Darma and Vyas valleys in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttarakhand. In 2023, he will start the Mount Everest expedition.

Yogesh Garbyal told that Sheetal, a resident of Pithoragarh, is from a very poor family. The father takes care of the family by driving a local taxi in Pithoragarh. This year Sheetal was sponsored by ‘The Hans Foundation’ for Choti Annapurna. Told that in the future, Sheetal wants to hoist the tricolor on the 14 highest and highest peaks of seven continents of the world more than eight thousand meters. Sheetal has conquered inaccessible mountains like Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Annapurna.
