Dehradun. On Tuesday, Graphic Era University became the launchpad for the Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026, a concerted effort to engineer tech‑driven answers to the region’s geographic and social hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology, and Biotechnology, and welcomed roughly 500 participants ranging from students and teachers to academicians and industry experts.
Spanning ninety days, the hackathon seeks to fuse youthful ingenuity with real‑world problems faced by the state. Contestants will be challenged to devise prototypes in domains such as disaster mitigation, traffic and crowd control, affordable healthcare, environmental stewardship, wildlife protection, tourism enhancement, and transparent governance.
Key technological thrusts include the deployment of artificial intelligence, data analytics, geographic information systems (GIS), and drone platforms. Proposed solutions may involve AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enhanced GIS mapping, environmental impact modelling, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and aerial monitoring via drones.
Minister Batra emphasized that Uttarakhand’s youth and its educational ecosystem hold the creative capacity to address the state’s distinctive challenges. He urged innovators to channel technology and imagination toward solving the genuine issues that affect everyday citizens.
The competition will progress through distinct phases: problem definition, ideation, prototype building, mentorship from domain experts, and final evaluation. Winning concepts will be nurtured through pilot deployments, incubation programmes, and partnerships with industry stakeholders.
Among the targeted outcomes are predictive tools for traffic congestion during peak pilgrim and tourist seasons, real‑time environmental stress monitoring, early‑warning systems for disaster‑prone zones, and streamlined emergency response mechanisms. The hackathon will also explore digital pathways to deliver government services in remote, mountainous communities.
Organisers stress a citizen‑first, responsible‑innovation approach. The event is orchestrated by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a network of institutional and ecosystem collaborators. Its overarching goal is to cultivate home‑grown technological remedies by linking academia, government bodies, the tech community, and emerging innovators.
