Targeted Outreach to Restore Missing Names

After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) concluded, the Uttar Pradesh election machinery has begun a dedicated outreach programme aimed at identifying eligible residents whose names were left out of the freshly published electoral roll.

Side‑by‑Side Comparison of Old and New Rolls

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are being dispatched to households to compare the pre‑SIR list with the current register. Anyone who appeared on the earlier list but is absent now will be contacted, their details verified, and assisted in filing Form 6 for inclusion.

First‑Time Voters in Focus

The initiative also zeroes in on young adults turning 18 for the first time. BLOs have been assigned to reach roughly 20‑25 new voters each week, with the goal of completing this segment within a month.

Special Camps for Hard‑to‑Reach Communities

To simplify registration for vulnerable groups, temporary camps will be set up at the booth level. Extra effort will be directed toward residents of night shelters, labour colonies, the homeless and other socially disadvantaged sections. Awareness drives will be coordinated through schools, local NGOs and the SVEEP programme.

Layered Monitoring and Transparency

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has instructed district officials and registration officers to continuously track progress. Updates will be reviewed at state, district and booth levels, with a one‑month deadline to finish the household‑level verification.

Why This Initiative Is Crucial

The Election Commission has asked states that have completed the SIR to undertake corrective actions, ensuring that every eligible voter—both those missed and those newly eligible—gets a chance to register.
