Prayer at Gurdwara Nanakmatta Sahib
Dehradun – On Monday, Uttarakhand’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, visited Gurdwara Nanakmatta Sahib to offer prayers. He stood before the sanctum, seeking peace, prosperity and the welfare of every resident of the state. In acknowledgment of his presence, the shrine’s management presented him with a traditional siropa and a commemorative token.
Joining the Clean‑Up Drive
After the prayer ceremony, the minister literally rolled up his sleeves and took part in a hands‑on cleanliness drive organized on the gurdwara’s premises under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. Alongside volunteers, he swept, scrubbed and engaged in shram daan, stressing that cleanliness must become a habit, not a one‑off activity.
Shared Duty for Public Spaces
Speaking to the assembled crowd, Dhami underscored that safeguarding the sanctity of religious sites and keeping their surroundings immaculate is a collective responsibility. He urged people to extend the same care to bus terminals, railway stations, hospitals, government offices and every other public venue.
He noted that Uttarakhand occupies a prominent place on India’s religious and tourism maps, attracting countless pilgrims and travelers each year. Maintaining cleanliness at these high‑traffic spots, he said, calls for continuous public participation.
Service, Participation and the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan
The chief minister linked the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for public service, observing that the values of service, cleanliness and community involvement have gained momentum under the Prime Minister’s leadership.

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, launched in Uttarakhand on September 17 to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday, comprises a series of programmes focused on service, citizen dialogue and innovative solutions. The Nanakmatta clean‑up formed an integral part of this broader effort.
Cleanliness as a Continuous Movement
Dhami warned that hygiene should never be limited to a single event or campaign. He appealed for sustained citizen involvement, turning cleanliness into a daily lifestyle choice. According to him, coordinated public action can keep religious sites, tourist attractions and public facilities tidy, welcoming and dignified.
