At his official residence in Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with a delegation from the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, led by state president Yogita Kentura Rawat, to discuss the critical contribution of Gram Panchayats and the state’s rural development agenda.
Gram Panchayats: The Grassroots Engine of Democracy
Dhami opened the conversation by stressing that Gram Panchayats are among the most important democratic bodies in India. He highlighted that village heads and elected Panchayat members act as the first point of contact for citizens, addressing grievances, steering development initiatives, and ensuring that welfare programmes reach the intended beneficiaries.
The chief minister described Gram Pradhans as the vital link that connects ordinary villagers with the administration, helping to pinpoint urgent needs and devise practical solutions for rural areas.
State Priorities for Rural Uttarakhand
According to Dhami, the government’s vision for comprehensive rural upliftment rests on four pillars:
- Infrastructure upgrades – improved roads, dependable drinking‑water supply, modernised schools, primary‑health‑care centres, and better sanitation.
- Economic revitalisation – boosting the rural economy through skill development, micro‑enterprise support, and farmer‑friendly policies.
- Employment generation – creating job opportunities within villages to curb out‑migration and raise local incomes.
- Inclusive welfare – guaranteeing that every segment of society benefits from development measures, thereby raising living standards across the board.
He underscored that Uttarakhand’s true strength lies in its villages, cultural heritage, and agrarian base, and that empowering these units is essential for a self‑reliant state.
Active Participation of Panchayat Leaders
Dhami emphasized that elected representatives must play an active role in planning and implementing projects that reflect the unique needs of their constituencies. He affirmed that the government values the on‑the‑ground insights of Panchayat members and will provide them with meaningful opportunities to shape development agendas.
Giving Gram Panchayats a seat at the planning table and upgrading essential rural facilities were identified as top government priorities.
Looking Ahead: Collaboration for Faster Progress
The chief minister expressed confidence that the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, together with village‑level leaders, will continue to cooperate closely with the state administration, accelerating rural development and strengthening local governance.
