Background

Pawan Kumar Garg, who served as the nursing superintendent of the Orthopaedics Department at King George’s Medical University, disappeared on the night of 27 September after leaving his residence in Keshav Nagar, Madhya Pradesh, accompanied by a friend named Sachin.

Chronology of the disappearance

Police reports indicate the pair set off in Garg’s own vehicle. Footage from the Itaunja toll plaza captured the car passing the gate, though the driver’s face was obscured. Investigators linked the attire seen on the video to the outfit Garg wore that evening, and a second passenger was clearly visible beside the driver.

Beyond the toll, the car arrived in Ludhauli village where Garg and Sachin joined acquaintances at a local gathering. Witnesses say a heated argument broke out, escalating into a violent assault that left both men seriously hurt.

After the alleged attack, Garg’s mobile phone was found switched off. His family filed a missing‑person report at the Madhya police station on 29 September.

Police investigation

Detectives traced the vehicle’s route along the Lucknow‑Sitapur highway. The abandoned car was later located near Chadhehra Bazaar on the Jairampur road in the Kamalapur area of Sitapur on Tuesday.

Interrogations of several suspects shed light on the Ludhauli gathering and the reported assault. Authorities now believe that after being attacked, Garg and Sachin were placed back into the car and possibly driven toward the Sitapur‑Bahraich border.

Search operations

In response, police have launched an extensive search of the Ghaghra River, which is thought to be the route the perpetrators might have taken. Multiple police units, supported by the fire department and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are combing the riverbanks and adjacent areas.

The investigation remains active as officials work to reconstruct the exact sequence of events after the two men reached Ludhauli village and to locate the missing nursing superintendent.
