Kurukshetra: After a relentless five‑day hunt, officials finally retrieved the corpse of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage worker from Ismailabad on Tuesday, pulling the body from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to the village of Kirmich.

How the Body Was Discovered and Identified

Locals first noticed a lifeless form near a canal siphon and immediately notified divers. Diver Pragat Singh headed the underwater team that recovered the remains. Police then cross‑checked the recovered individual against missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups. Once the identity was confirmed, the information was relayed to KUK police, and Dharmbir’s family in Ismailabad was informed.

Dharmbir, also known in the neighbourhood as Bablu, was a father of three daughters and the main provider for his household. His father, Lal Chand, and his brother arrived on the scene, verified the identification, and handed the body over to the authorities. The remains were subsequently taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a forensic autopsy.

Family’s Report of His Disappearance

According to relatives, Dharmbir left his home on the afternoon of October 1 and never returned. After scouring nearby areas without success, the family lodged a missing‑person report at the Ismailabad police station.

His father told investigators that Dharmbir had been experiencing personal stress for a while and often complained of hand pain due to the physically demanding nature of his job. The family also shared that his three daughters range in age from 18 months to 12 years. Dharmbir lived separately from his brothers, and no known conflicts or adversaries were reported.

Police Follow‑Up

KUK police Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar confirmed that officers arrived at the canal after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following identification by Dharmbir’s relatives, the corpse was sent for an autopsy.

Investigators added that any further legal steps will hinge on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing inquiry.
