Verdict Delivered in the Amit Kashyap Murder Case

On Wednesday, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar of Meerut’s District Court No. 12 pronounced a guilty verdict against Ravita, the widow of the late Amit Kashyap, and her purported lover Amardeep. Both defendants were escorted from the jail under tight security to hear the judgment.

How the Crime Unfolded

The tragedy traces back to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap’s lifeless body was discovered inside his home in the Bahsuma police‑station area of Akbarpur Sadat village. Prosecutors allege that Ravita and Amardeep colluded to end his life.

Prosecution’s Account of a Calculated Murder

According to the state’s case, Ravita allegedly restrained her husband while Amardeep delivered a fatal chokehold. Investigators swiftly ruled out an accidental death, treating the incident as a pre‑meditated homicide.

Staging a snake‑bite formed a striking part of the prosecution’s narrative. After the killing, a live snake was purportedly placed beside the corpse to mislead the police.

The first person to notice something was Amit’s five‑year‑old son, Aniket, who found his father unresponsive the following morning. Relatives arrived, saw a snake near the body and secured the reptile in a container.

Forensic examinations later contradicted the snake‑bite theory, prompting investigators to shift focus and eventually arrest Ravita and Amardeep.

Key Witness Testimony

The prosecution called twelve witnesses. Amit’s mother Munesh and his brother Monu testified that they saw Amardeep entering the house on the night of the murder.

A local snake‑charmer also took the stand, identifying Amardeep as the source of the snake that had been “borrowed” for an alleged religious program, bolstering the claim that the reptile was deliberately introduced to fabricate a false cause of death.

Defense’s Version

Ravita presented no witnesses in her defence. Amardeep’s uncle attempted to create an alibi, stating that his nephew was staying at his maternal uncle’s residence on the day in question.

Verdict and What Comes Next

After evaluating the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Ravita and Amardeep guilty of murder, bringing the trial phase to a close. Amit’s mother Munesh urged the bench to impose a harsh sentence. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 16 October.

"Justice must be swift and decisive," the judge remarked, emphasizing the need for a deterrent penalty.
