Incident Summary

Early Monday morning, a public bus travelling at excessive speed veered off its lane near Durga Chowk in Haridwar's Jwalapur district. The out‑of‑control vehicle swerved onto the curb and slammed into an auto‑rickshaw and four cars that were parked along the roadside.

Vehicles Involved and Injuries

The collision left the auto‑rickshaw driver, Trilok Singh Gusain, seriously hurt. He was promptly transferred to Jolly Grant Hospital’s tertiary care unit for advanced treatment. The bus also struck a stray dog, which succumbed to its injuries on the spot, and caused extensive damage to the four parked cars and the auto‑rickshaw.

Public Reaction

Onlookers rushed to the scene, creating a chaotic atmosphere as they tried to aid the injured driver. The sudden gathering of people and the wreckage blocked the thoroughfare, bringing traffic to a halt for several minutes.

Police Action

Jwalapur police arrived within minutes, secured the accident site, and placed the bus driver under arrest. The bus itself was impounded for forensic examination while officers began reconstructing the events that led to the loss of control.

Investigation Progress

Preliminary findings point to reckless speed as a primary cause, but investigators are reviewing driver statements, vehicle data logs, and eyewitness accounts before issuing a final report. The injured auto‑rickshaw driver remains under medical care, and further legal proceedings are expected once the inquiry concludes.

"We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine all factors that contributed to this tragedy," said a spokesperson for the Jwalapur police department.
