As part of a three‑day state trip to India, Swiss President Guy Parmelin will touch down in Noida on Tuesday. He has set aside roughly two and a half hours to tour the brand‑new Noida International Airport at Jewar and meet key project leaders.
Scheduled to arrive at the airfield around 11:30 a.m., the president will stay on site until about 2 p.m. His agenda includes a walk‑through of the passenger and cargo terminals, a sit‑down with senior executives, and a briefing on the airport’s construction milestones and future operational plans.
The Jewar complex is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd, a wholly‑owned arm of Zurich Airport International AG – the Swiss group that runs Zurich Airport. Parmelin will receive a comprehensive presentation on the partnership and will inspect the infrastructure as it takes shape.
First head‑of‑state landing at Jewar
Airport officials say the Swiss leader’s aircraft will be the inaugural state‑level international flight to land on the runway. While cargo aircraft from Russia and China used the strip during the recent BRICS summit, Parmelin’s arrival marks a symbolic breakthrough for the fledgling hub.
During the stop, the president will also engage with Swiss engineers and project managers stationed on site. The delegation will be briefed on passenger‑service concepts, cargo‑handling systems, cutting‑edge technologies, and the overall operating model envisioned for the airport.
Business and technology dialogue takes centre stage
Parmelin’s India itinerary coincides with a surge in economic and technological exchanges between the two nations. The program includes round‑tables on trade, investment, education, research and innovation.
Accompanying the president are senior Swiss business leaders and academic representatives, turning the Jewar visit into a platform for broader collaboration between Indian and Swiss enterprises.
Airport gearing up for expanded international traffic
Noida International Airport has already launched commercial services and is preparing for a wider slate of international routes. The Swiss team’s assessment of passenger and cargo facilities will be pivotal as the airport aspires to become a premier aviation hub for the National Capital Region.
Stringent security protocols have been put in place ahead of the presidential arrival, featuring layered protection and dedicated traffic management to ensure a smooth movement of the entourage.
The high‑profile visit underscores Switzerland’s investment in the Jewar project and opens another avenue for India‑Switzerland cooperation across infrastructure, technology, business and investment.
