Upcoming Weather Situation

The state’s meteorology office has issued a yellow alert for Uttarakhand covering the period from October 6 through October 11. During these days the mountainous regions will face a mix of rain, thunder and even snow at the highest altitudes, while the low‑lying plains are projected to remain largely dry.

Snow Forecast

Weather Director Dr. C.S. Tomar notes that snowfall is expected to start in areas above 4,200 metres between October 6 and 8. By October 9‑11 the snow‑covered zone should descend to roughly 3,800 metres, delivering a noticeable chill to the upper hills.

Hill Districts Under Yellow Alert

Seven hill districts have been placed under the alert:

  • Chamoli
  • Nainital
  • Pithoragarh
  • Bageshwar
  • Almora
  • Rudraprayag
  • Uttarkashi

These regions may experience wind gusts of 30‑40 km/h, frequent thunderstorms and a risk of lightning strikes.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Outlook

Light to moderate showers are anticipated across several mountain stretches, accompanied by occasional gusts, thunder and lightning. The forecast also calls for moderate rain on October 6‑7 in Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri, with thunderstorms likely to accompany the precipitation.

Temperature Changes

As snow blankets the higher terrain, temperatures will drop noticeably in those zones. In contrast, the lower plains should enjoy milder, drier conditions throughout the alert period.
