Legal Fraternity Halts All Proceedings at Rohini Courts
On Monday, members of the Delhi Rohini Court Bar walked out en masse, refusing to sit for any hearings. The association announced a 24‑hour boycott, citing the alleged assault on advocate Kamaldeep at the Mahendra Park police station.
Alleged Incident at Mahendra Park Police Station
According to the lawyer, on 29 September he was subjected to verbal abuse followed by physical aggression inside the Mahendra Park precinct. The bar’s executive committee immediately escalated the complaint to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the DCP of the North‑West district, and also informed the Principal District and Sessions Judge.
Bar Accuses Police of Retracting Earlier Assurance
The association says it initially received a verbal undertaking that the officers involved would face disciplinary action. Instead, the lawyers claim, a case was lodged against Kamaldeep, and senior police officers failed to disclose this reversal to the bar’s executive committee, breaching the trust placed in the earlier promise.
Police Barred from Court Complex on October 5
In protest, the bar has prohibited all police personnel—irrespective of jurisdiction—from entering the Rohini Court complex, including the Nayab Court, for the entire day of 5 October.
Call for Unity Among Lawyers
The association urged its members to stand together during the boycott, stressing that the dignity, safety, and professional independence of the legal community must not be compromised. Any attempts to intimidate lawyers, it warned, will be met with lawful resistance.
The standoff underscores a widening rift between the Rohini Court Bar Association and police authorities over the handling of the September 29 incident. Further developments are expected as the matter moves through the appropriate channels.
