Karachi – In the early hours of Monday, a Hindu shrine located in the isolated village of Rathi, close to Nagarparkar, was forcibly entered and defaced. The temple’s caretaker stumbled upon broken statues the following morning and promptly alerted local law‑enforcement.

Suspect placed in custody

Shiva Kaachi, head of the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad NGO, confirmed that police have taken a man into custody whom they believe to be the main offender. No further details about the individual’s identity or the exact reasons for his arrest have been disclosed.

The temple’s significance in a Hindu‑majority locale

Though modest in scale, the Mata Jog Maya Temple is one of several small worship sites scattered throughout the villages surrounding Nagarparkar, an area with a notable Hindu population. These shrines act as focal points for prayer, festivals and community interaction.

Ongoing investigation

Investigators are assessing the full extent of the destruction and whether other participants were part of the act. The police inquiry remains active, with forensic teams collecting evidence and officials interviewing locals.

Similar attacks earlier this year

Earlier in the year, the Kali Mata Temple in Hyderabad’s Fateh Chowk district suffered a comparable act of vandalism, sparking protests and road blockades by Pakistan’s Hindu community. These repeated incidents have reignited worries about the protection of minority religious sites in Sindh.
