Jaipur. Following a devastating fire at the Sethi Complex in Minhari Ji Ka Katla, Badi Chaupar, police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the property’s proprietor, Anand Sethi. The complaint cites illegal structural additions, non‑functional fire‑suppression gear, the lack of a valid Fire NOC, and blocked access routes that hampered rescue efforts.

The conflagration erupted on the building’s second floor and raged for roughly 13 hours, rapidly engulfing merchandise stored across multiple shops and warehouses. Fire crews were forced into an extended operation to finally bring the flames under control.

Access Challenges for Firefighters

Fire engines struggled to reach the site because the surrounding lanes are narrow and littered with obstacles. This forced the brigade to improvise with temporary ladders and hoses, delaying the containment of the blaze.

Shops and Businesses Hit Hard

Among the affected enterprises were Satnam Madan Traders, Jitendra/Kamal, Kamal Agarwal, Shailendra Agarwal, Rajesh, Hasan, Ramesh/Rajesh, Rakesh Gupta’s Vimal Hosiery Agency, Chhotumai Purushottam, Ashok Kumar Sharma, and Vikas Sharma. Units numbered 201‑A through 206‑A also sustained damage. Vimal Hosiery Agency alone estimates losses in the range of ₹65‑70 lakh, while assessments for the remaining shops are ongoing.

Police Investigation

The FIR was lodged based on a statement from Sub‑Inspector Narendra, with SHO Rakesh Khalia assigned to lead the probe. Authorities will scrutinise the building’s construction compliance, the condition of fire‑safety installations, the status of the Fire NOC, and any other lapses that may have contributed to the disaster.
