New Delhi. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the calendar for the biennial polls that will fill 28 seats in the Legislative Councils of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The contests cover both graduate‑type and teachers‑type constituencies, with polling slated for 23 October 2026 and the count scheduled for 27 October.
According to the notification, the official election notice will be published on 29 September. Prospective candidates may submit their nomination papers up to 6 October. Voting will take place between 8 am and 4 pm on the 23rd of October.
The schedule aligns with the expiry of the current members' terms. In Bihar, eight seats will become vacant in November; Karnataka will see four seats lapse the same month. Maharashtra has five seats and Uttar Pradesh eleven seats whose terms end in December.
Maharashtra – Five Seats
The Maharashtra polls will cover the following constituencies:

- Pune Graduates
- Nagpur Graduates
- Amravati Teachers
- Pune Teachers
Karnataka – Four Seats
The Karnataka contests involve:

- North‑East Teachers

Uttar Pradesh – Eleven Seats
In Uttar Pradesh, voters will decide on representatives for:

- Varanasi Graduates
- Agra Graduates
- Meerut Graduates
- Allahabad‑Jhansi Graduates
