Incident Overview
In the bustling Nalapani Chowk area of Dehradun, a woman on her scooter was allegedly cornered by masked assailants in a black car on a bright Wednesday morning. The video that later circulated on social media shows the driver trying to force the woman into the vehicle after she had dropped her daughter at a college bus stop.
Thanks to the quick reaction of nearby female sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation, the attack was interrupted. The assailants fled the scene as the workers intervened, allowing the victim to escape.
Commission’s Intervention
Upon learning of the incident, Women’s Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal contacted SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni and Circle Officer Vandana Verma. She asked for a detailed briefing and instructed the police to pursue the case with the utmost urgency.
Chairperson Kandwal emphasized that every possible motive—whether personal grudges, old enmities, or organized criminal intent—must be examined. She praised the victim’s courage and the bravery of the sanitation workers, insisting that the investigation be exhaustive and that the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
Police Response
A First Information Report has been lodged at Raipur police station, and three special investigation teams have been formed to trace the suspects. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding streets to identify the vehicle and its occupants.
The commission has pledged to monitor the progress of the inquiry, urging law‑enforcement agencies to deliver swift, transparent justice and to reinforce safety measures for women across the state.
